June 2 was an emotional evening in Aarau, Switzerland. The Mibelle Group project team was proud to win the 2023 Swiss Packaging Award in the Marketing category as well as the Public Award for the Limited Edition of the “Handy” cult brand of dishwashing liquid made of ocean-bound plastic.
The evening was eagerly anticipated as 48 packaging solutions were submitted by 34 participants in six categories for this year's Swiss Packaging Award. Every year, the Swiss Packaging Institute presents the Swiss Packaging Award for outstanding achievements in packaging in the categories of sustainability, convenience, design, marketing, technology/design/machine solutions.
The Mibelle Group won the 2023 Swiss Packaging Award in the Marketing category for the ocean-bound “Handy” cult brand as well as the Public Award thanks to the votes of consumers. Laura Guercio, Product Manager at the Mibelle Group, is very pleased: "The two awards are a great honor and show us that our sustainable packaging solution is addressing consumer needs. It's great that together as Migros we can drive such innovations forward."

The blue Handy bottle is made of recycled plastic that would end up in the ocean under normal circumstances. Every year, 10 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans, which is equivalent to more than one truckload per minute. The plastic waste is collected in Thai and Indonesian coastal areas (PET, PP, HDPE and LDPE). The plastic is then sorted, cleaned and processed into high-quality plastic granulate. The resulting #tide ocean material® is used to manufacture new products such as the Migros cult bottle, thereby closing the loop. For the project, Mibelle Group collaborated with the Swiss companies Tide Ocean SA and Biplast AG.
