Known as “mountain balm” and “holy herb”, Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum) is a member of the Borage family (Boraginaceae) and it is native to the Pacific Coast of North America, especially California. The leaves of this plant have traditionally been used to treat upper respiratory infections and asthma. Furthermore, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and neuro-protective benefits of this plant have been reported in literature. Most of these health benefits were attributed to specific polyphenolic compounds present in the plant, such as homoeriodictyol, eriodictyol, and sterubin.
Due to these antioxidant molecules, Yerba Santa is the perfect source for an active ingredient that protects hair follicles from oxidative stress. It also delays the aging of the hair follicle and increases the hair growth as well as the hair density.
