Sarreguemines now uses district heating

back

In a world where climate change is an ever-increasing threat, it is crucial to find sustainable energy solutions. The Sarreguemines site has invested in reducing its consumption of fossil fuels and now uses environmentally friendly district heating.

District heating is based on renewable energy sources and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is efficient, environmentally friendly and conserves resources. The project in Sarreguemines began after many years of negotiations and studies in the community. As one of the main players in the local industrial sector, the Mibelle Group has made a long-term commitment to the district heating project together with several parties, including the local hospital, schools and the municipality.

Gas consumption can be reduced by 40 % thanks to biomass

With district heating, the Mibelle Group can reduce its gas consumption by 40 % and improve its CO2 balance. The newly constructed district heating network supplies the entire municipal area with heat from biomass, primarily for heating public buildings such as the hospital, the local swimming pool and the town hall, but also for the industrial area. The district heating is generated from wood waste from the local forest.

The new biomass boiler was built just a few meters away from the Sarreguemines production site. After a heat exchanger was installed at the site in Sarreguemines and the distribution system was connected to the grid, the plant was put into operation in October 2023. The existing distribution network in the factory could be used to distribute the heat.

District heating for heating buildings and for the hot water circuit

Heating the buildings with biomass is only the first step in the energy transition at the site. Heat recovery from the compressors will soon also be used to heat the site's hot water circuit. The Mibelle Group will continue to take its responsibility seriously and actively seek sustainable energy solutions.
